For the second year in a row, the Burleith Community Fund is leading a community effort to support the annual Holiday Shoebox Gift Drive for So Others Might Eat. Last year, Burleith assembled over 50 boxes, and we hope to break that record this year. The shoebox gift drive is a wonderful way to bring together all of Burleith (young and young at heart, and new and old residents) in a shared goal.

last year burleith residents and a girl scout troop packed and wrapped boxes with supplies purchased by the BCF and other participants. A woman’s box contained a hat, gloves, scarf, socks, underwear, and toiletries.

We’re asking you to join in collecting shoeboxes decorated for the holidays and packing them with essential items and gifts benefiting men, women, and children experiencing homelessness or living in poverty. The SOME website lists the specific items needed.

The BCF will host an assemble-and-wrap gathering on Sunday, December 1, from noon to 3 pm. Swing by when you can, or if you can’t make the December 1 event, drop off your completed box(es) before or after. (The exact location in Burleith will be provided to those who RSVP to bcf@burleith.org.) The BCF will deliver the boxes to SOME for distribution to their community over the holidays.

How to get involved? Stop reading right now and email Kay at bcf@burleith.org to say “Yes” to participating! We will send you more details, including the day, time, and location of the wrap party.
