President’s Message

By Eric Langenbacher, president@burleith.org

Hopefully everyone made it through the Arctic blast alright. It's been a while since we’ve had snow on the ground for so long. Thankfully there has not been too much going on (locally), but I do want to mention a couple of things.

The Burleith Citizens Association is celebrating our 100th anniversary as an organization in 2025. Our first event of the year is right around the corner. Hosted by Linda Brooks, the 11th annual Gløgg Party is coming up on on Sunday, February 9, from 4–6 pm. Councilmember Brooke Pinto has been invited. This is a great opportunity to chat with neighbors and enjoy some mulled wine for a couple of hours before the Super Bowl. If you are interested in attending, please email Linda at Lbrookslb at gmail.com.

Just a heads up that there are actually two meetings at the same time that will discuss renovation plans for Ellington Field. There is a tentative presentation from the Department of Parks and Recreation (DPR) at the ANC meeting (Monday, February 3, 6:30 pm online) and a proposed resolution regarding the community engagement process. There is also a DPR Ward 1 & 2 construction update meeting at exactly the same time. For more information and to RSVP, please visit https://wardupdates.splashthat.com/. For additional information about the project, please visit https://dgs.dc.gov/page/dpr-park-and-recreation-center-projects.

As I mentioned at the BCA annual meeting back in November, our organization is facing a turning point insofar as we will soon need a new team to continue our good work. For now, we are looking for an editor for the Burleith Bell (at least four hard-copy issues a year), and we need folks to join our Summer Picnic Committee. The picnic is scheduled for June 14. Of course, if anyone is interested in becoming a member of the BCA Board next year, please let me know.

Finally, is anyone else getting random Burleith/Hillandale Alerts? They seem to cover new business openings, crimes, and permits in the neighborhood and vicinity. They just started popping up in my inbox a couple of months ago and they are associated with some LLC in North Carolina. Is this some AI-generated thing?
