Aircraft noise meeting

Submitted by the Citizens Association of Georgetown

The Citizens Association of Georgetown's monthly meeting will focus on aircraft noise issues. The meeting will be held on Wednesday evening, January 27, at the offices of Foley & Lardner LLP at 3000 K Street NW, Suite 600. (Enter via the Washington Harbour upper plaza at 30th Street.) The reception is at 7 pm; the program will begin at 7:30 pm. Representatives from Metropolitan Washington Airports Authority (MWAA), the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA), and members of the DC Fair Skies Coalition will speak.

With sweeping views of the Potomac, the Foley & Lardner space will be an inspiring place to discuss aircraft noise. And the popular new Chaia Farm to Taco restaurant will be serving their delicious tacos and iced hibiscus tea.

The DC Fair Skies Coalition was created to challenge excessive aircraft noise issues and seek changes to a new flight path that the FAA recently authorized for Reagan National Airport. The coalition includes representatives from CAG, Burleith, Foggy Bottom, Georgetown University, Hillandale, Foxhall Village, Colony Heights, Palisades, and Woodland Normanstone. The Coalition has retained counsel and filed a Petition for Review of the new flight path with the DC Federal Circuit Court of Appeals. The Coalition also intends to file a formal petition to the FAA seeking relief from the aircraft noise this new route has caused.

For more background about the aircraft noise issue and DC Fair Skies Coalition's efforts so far, visit the DC Fair Skies website and read this recent article in CAG's January newsletter.

The Fair Skies Coalition needs donations to finance this legal and administrative challenge to the FAA. We urge every resident adversely affected by aircraft noise to support these efforts by making a donation to the Aircraft Noise Fund. All donations are tax deductible.
