Georgetown Library "Farewell Yarrow" event

Join the library's Peabody Room as it bids "farewell" to its 1822 portrait of Yarrow Mamout, which is being borrowed by the Smithsonian Institution for display at the National Portrait Gallery through 2019.

There will be brief presentations by

  • James H. Johnson, author of From Slave Ship to Harvard: Yarrow Mamout and the History of an American Family
  • Mia Carey, University of Florida PhD candidate and field director for the 2015 archaeological survey of Georgetown property that Yarrow owned
  • Muhammad Abdur Rahim, Howard University PhD candidate specializing in enslaved Muslim African Americans
