French Reading Group |
| |
- Purpose
- To read aloud and discuss French books and short stories while enjoying wine and
cheese in a comfortable social setting. Group members often bring the wine, and sometimes cheese.
The hosts, Mary and Henry Meyer, supply cheese, paté and bread.
- Status
- The French Reading Group meets in Burleith at the home of Henry and Mary Meyer usually on Monday night at 8:00 p.m. (For further info please call Henry or Mary Meyer at 202-965-3952)
- The group is led by Dr. Henry Meyer, an Associate Professor Emeritus of French who retired after 25
years from George Mason University. Henry is French and is very knowledgeable in history.
- The group sits around in Henry and Mary's living room and reads the French out loud. Then Henry asks questions about what was read.
- The books and literature to be read are usually picked out by Henry, although
anyone can suggest something that the group might read.
- Anyone can
join the group, at any time. Having some knowledge of French is helpful. Some group members are fluent
while others read well but do not speak much French. New members are welcome, even if
you don't remember much French from your school days.
- When we finish a book or short story we enjoy a dinner cooked by Chef Henri!
